Susan’s book, “Calm and Compassionate Children , A Handbook” -was published by Ten Speed Press in 2007. Her columns on conscious child-rearing topics have appeared in Tikkun, a national magazine, and she is the editor of ” I Came from Joy”, a spiritual activity book for children. She gives seminars for parents in California, Washington, and Oregon, and also trains teachers in the Education for Life method

The last eighteen years of Susan’s thirty-year career in education have been in alternative schools that promote universal values, such as honesty, generosity, self-understanding, and peace. Before moving to Portland, she taught for 12 years in Nevada City California, at the first Living Wisdom School, founded in 1972. Susan’s early teaching experience included working with special needs children and pregnant teens and teaching high school English. She has Master’s degrees in both education and library science.
